Dating Someone Who Is Older Than You

Have you found that people your age simply do not appeal to you because they seem too immature or you are just looking for different things from life than the other people your age? If so, you are not alone and you may want to think about dating someone who is older than you. Chances are, you have already met some people who are older than you that you have an interest in but you are unsure of how you pursue someone older.

Dating someone just a couple years older than you isn't going to make much of a difference. For instance, if you are 25 and the person you are dating is 27 you are not going to find many differences in the way you approach life. But, if you date someone who is five years older than you, you may find that they are looking for more stability than they were five years before.

Dating someone who is older than you may give you what you are looking for in the way that they approach life and what they are looking for in a relationship. What you may not expect is that your energy levels are different and your idea of entertainment may be different as well. As we get older we slowly slow down. Most of us don't notice this as it is gradual, but if you are dating someone who is even five to 10 years older than you, you may notice that they aren't able to match your stamina. This doesn't have to be a bad thing, you are just going to have to allow for these differences in energy levels.

If you have different ideas of what entertainment is, for instance you may want to go dancing and they may want to rent a movie and enjoy a quiet night in, it doesn't need to be a bad thing. The best thing that you can do is compromise on your entertainment ideas. For instance, one weekend you can go out dancing and the next weekend you could stay in and enjoy a quiet night together. This will allow you to both continue to do the things that you want without any resentment toward the other.

Another idea is to agree that you will spend some of the time doing the things that you want to do and they will spend their time doing what they want to do, and you'll come together afterward and spend time together. Dating someone older, as is the case when you date anyone, will require compromise. If you are willing to compromise you will get what you need mentally and emotionally from the relationship while still having a lot of fun together and apart.
